You have vacuum-operated controls, and this is a real common problem with an easy fix. Look under the hood for the vacuum hose that goes through the firewall. There will be a check valve in that line. Replace it with a larger one that has a small storage canister built in. If you cannot find that at the Ford dealer, get one from the Chrysler dealer's parts department. The original valve is about the size of a stack of three nickels. The replacement is about 2 1/2 inches long and 1 1/4" in diameter. It is very effective at solving this problem.
