Replacing A/C compressor

The new compressor has the cut off connector I need, but it also has something that looks like a nut or bolt recessed in a hole (to the right on the compressor, on top in the picture), and has a very thin white covering on it, almost like plastic or paper film. What is this and should I peel the film off or leave it?

You can leave it, that is a high-pressure pop off valve which is designed as a safety device. After you get done replacing the compressor. here is a video to help you vacuum down and recharge the system:
