What would cause strange noise when in 2WD that stops when switched to 4hi?

Sounds like its coming from between the driver side wheel and the transfer case. Sort of loud but cant really feel anything with it. It doesn't always do it but usually after driving 5-30 miles it will start, and it stops as soon as I switch to 4hi, or when I slow down below 15 mph. I checked transfer case fluid and it was low, topped it off but no change.

Check wheel bearings and axle on that side. Might be a bearing in axle but I kind of think more what I've already said.

Found out it was the front drive shaft. I guess it's a common problem on these. They are hard to find used but not hard to remove and have rebuilt. I was told if that bearing totally seizes up it can break the whole front of the transfer case off.
