'95 volvo 850 GLT 2.4L, mileage: 131,000. When I first start my car I hear a light ticking noise or like something is rattleing around in the undercarrage. As I accelarate past 1500rpm it goes away. It comes back again louder when I come to a stop. Is this something in my transmission, exhaust or something engine related?

Have you found that the performance is effected? With the engine and exaust cold tap on the cadadlic
converter and see if it makes a rattling sound. the converter could be going bad.

Ever so often the car will surge when accelarating, after decelerating, but never after a stop. i have not noticed any power issuses besides a small lack of pick-up when getting up to freeway speeds.

When you start it up have someone kneel down by where the converter is, if the insides of the converter and listen for the rattling sound.
