Hi Guys,
What could cause my turbo to whine for first 1-2 min if engine is cold, but no problem if it idles for about 1 in summer and two min in winter. I have flushed the oil, drained it twice and replaced with 5-20 good grade oil, including the auto transmission cooler hose drain.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

The turbo shaft bearings may be failing, as turbos are a highly balanced component, any small amount of wear in the bearings can start to cause problems, I would get a turbo specialist to check this out, do not attempt to dismantle or work on the turbo your self as you will stand a good chance of doing serious damage to it.

I didn't mention that I'd replaced the turbo last year when the problem started, the whine was exactly the same with the rebuilt turbo that I installed. I think it must be something different, but what?

I would have the oil supply to the turbo checked next.
