To reply to your remark, the brake switch and the cruise control switch are separate. They shouldn't be, but they are. To get to the brake switch, we removed the cruise control plate, but that still didn't allow us access. So, we took out the instrument cluster. One person had to guide from the top while the other person got to the switch from underneath. We tested the switch, and it's fine. Now, we have real problems. Since the diagnostic module (I forget what they call it, but it's supposed to give indications of bulb failure, etc.) Did not act properly when we tested it, we're proceeding to replace that in an attempt to find the failure. All other lights work fine. The electrical diagrams for the vehicle don't show anything besides the fuse box as being in the circuit. Now, the fun begins. Also, I had purchased a replacement switch, but you're really stuck using the Volvo part, because there's no way that you can make any adjustments on the switch against the brake pedal. The Volvo switch has only one nut on it, and you fit it into the plate and lock it down. The other switches have 2 nuts; one for each side so that you can make the necessary adjustment to 5/32 " from the pedal.
Wish me luck hunting for the short.
