Hello, I have a question regarding my car. Having problems starting the car, so I took the car to AutoZone and they tested the entire charging system and they determined it was the voltage regulator. My question is: is the voltage regulator a part of the alternator?

Thank you!

Yup. It is built in on most models except for Chrysler's, so you have to buy more than you need.

What is your battery voltage while the engine is running?

Thanks! It registered a 13 when tested at auto zone. I just had the alternator replaced at a shop. I just wanted to make sure it was part of the alternator and not a separate part.

The acceptable range is 13.75 to 14.75 volts. There are other tests to determine if the generator is causing the low voltage or if there is a wiring problem, but those tests require a professional load tester. Specifically, "full-load output current" and "ripple voltage" are what I want to see.
