I was told by a repair shop that specifically works on Volkswagen's that you just can't replace brake pads that you have to replace the pads and the rotors every time. Is this true? You just can't replace the pads? Thanks!

Hello -

No, I haven't seen anything that states you have to replace the rotors every time. Maybe there is an auto out there that the manufacture states that..... But I haven't seen it.

Now with that, when you perform a brake job it is important to either turn the rotors or replace them. To turn them they can only be turned down to a certain safety limit. Some rotors have that stamped on them. Then if they are not able to be turned, then they must be replaced.

Also, sometimes though within limits they may be slightly warped... Then again, I have found it is better to replace them than turn them.

Also, can you tell me your exact model, is it a 2.0T, or 3.6, or 3.6 4motion, or Value Edition. Also your engine size in liter.
