My 2002 Jetta VR6 manual transmission car started making a strong clanking noise that vibrates the car pretty strongly (just for 2-3 seconds). I have no trouble shifting gears and the car drives normally otherwise. It seems to happen after I make a turn and I'm straightening out the steering wheel. When it first happened, I thought I hit a rock and it caused my car to abruptly jump to the side. The auto shop says that I need a new transmission. Does this sound reasonable?

get a second opion, at first though it sounds like it could be in the front axle, if it shifts fine and it mostly does it comming out of a turn, i would check the front end.
