Brake Squealing

I just installed rear Brake Rotors by myself (2000 VW Jetta 2.0). I take out the caliper & pads. Slide the new rotor in & put it back the saem Old pads (which looks fine to me) after sanding them on the road a bit. It took lots of struggle to put caliper back in place. ( But all I did is push my hands & rubber hammer). When I test drove it. It smell very bad that something is burning & caliper & rotors got very HOT for 1st 10/15 miles. Tire wasn't spinning the time when car was on jack (after new rotor installed). Well after driving 20/30 miles the smell is gone & rotor is not get HOT as much it was BUT when I push brake I heard brake squealing from one rear tire, other one is seems fine now.
any idea. Friend of mine said "MUST reset the caliper even u havn't change pads" & some said "change the pads asap"?
thanks

Hi Bruce thanks for reply. I think the one side rotor not sit properly. When I push hard brake, it work fine but if I go softly then it squeal, can I use "Brake Squeak Treatment" or I have to unistall caliper & re-install it?

I believe you said that you replaced the rotor and not the pad. That will work but is not really a good idea. The pad and rotor mate to glide smoothly next to each other. The worn, though not worn out, pad will take time to conform to the new rotor. It may be noisey and not as effective for awhile.

I still have brake squealing from one back side tire since I change the ROTORs (a month ago). I think I have to change the pads as well, as I change just ROTORs before.

Pads looks OK but very old, brake was fine before I change rotors coz older was rusty (newer look nice BUT brake squealing killing me)

any help, ideas?
Thanks
