The check engine light can come on for a variety of reasons. It can be anything from a knocking rod to it simply being time for a scheduled repair. At 66,000 miles, I would suspect an 02 sensor as being the one to trigger the light.
Take a trip to your friendly local auto parts store. They can connect a tool to the car that will tell you what kind of trouble is signaling the light. Almost every store will do this for you free of charge.
