I have a 1993 VW Golf with 217,000 miles on it. It is a great car but I can't justify spending $750 to repair the AC. The repair shop tested it and said that I need to replace the condensor. I purchased a condensor and dryer and o-ring kit and I'm going to do it myself. I know enough mechanics to be dangerous but I've never done an AC work. I'm going under the assumption that all I have to do is unbolt the old parts and bolt in the new parts using the new o-rings with some refridgeration oil on them, evacuate the system and recharge it. Am I missing something? Thanks for your help.

Hi mckensw,

So far nothing is missing but you need to check if the pipes are clean before installation. If not, recommendaion is to flush the system before installation. That requires the system to be dismantled.

There is a certain amount of oil needed to be in the condenser but I am unable to provide the actual amount, you need to check it out.
