1996 Vauxhall Corsa Front Wheel Drive Manual 73000 miles

hi ive jus bought a vauxhall corsa 1.4 16v sport and the speedo didnt work ive turned the pin and it moves both ends so the cable isnt snapped im jus abit confused as to why it wont work? Any ideas?
