I changed the battery and starter. My lights work but the truck won’t turn over.

Hi,

If the starter motor won't engage and turn the engine, it could be a few things.

First, I attached the starter circuit wiring schematic so that you have a reference. See pics below.

Now, this is a straight-forward circuit. Before we start checking electrical items, see if it starts in neutral. (I'm assuming it has an automatic transmission and not a manual) If there is no change, we need to start at the battery junction box at the left front of the engine compartment.

First, check fuse 13, a 30-amp fuse. In addition to checking the fuse itself, check to see if it has power to and from it.

Here is a link you may find helpful:

If the fuse is good, I need you to locate the starter relay in the same box and remove the relay. If there is another relay in the box with the same part number, switch them and see if that makes a difference. If there isn't one, here is a link that explains how to test a relay and relay circuit:

Let me know what you find or if you have questions. Once I know what is found, I can further direct you.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Note: I had to cut the schematic in half to make it readable. I did overlap the two so you can follow from one to the next. Also, pic 3 shows the relay and fuse locations in the battery junction box.

Have you tried jumping pins 87 and 30 where the relay connects to see if the starter will engage?

Let me know.
