Purchased this vehicle from private party. They said they had only used it twice, when the starter failed. The positive connection had so much corrosion on it I thought this was the problem. I replaced the end and tried to start it. When I turned the key to crank it, nothing. All my dash lights worked, along with the gauges etc. Nothing from the starter. I jumped across the main posts of the relay on the firewall and the starter cranked over nicely. Nothing with the key, however. Where do I go from here?

Is "S" wire still hooked to the starter relay/solenoid?

If it has a "S" and an "I" wire for the solenoid, did they maybe get switched?

With "S" wire taken loose, do you get voltage (and what) from the "S" wire's end, when the key is turned to "start"?

I may be able to get you a "Prodemand" wire schematic for the starting system, this would show all of the goodies that could go wrong before the solenoid.

Picture I had on hand for a Ford.

Your Turn,

The Medic
