Hi,

I bought truck in Summer, I live in Vegas and the truck shut off would not go but it was 104 degrees outside.
Now it's wintertime and the truck has been running great.
I went to get in it one morning I didn't even make it to the end of the block. Truck shut off, would turn over but not start.
Let it sit for 15 minutes then went to start it again same thing trying to start but it won't turn over and then all of sudden thick white smoke starts coming out from under hood.
We opened the hood and could not find where it came from (smoke).
I have replaced Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, tune up and more.
Bought brand new battery.
Spent over $500.00 and there it sits in my driveway.
Same problem.
We have replaced fuses and checked wires.
We can't see anything.
wrong
My neighbor's friend was outside a few weeks ago o he's a mechanic and he looked at it for me, he said "it's not getting a spark ". That could be several things.
I have $3,000.00 into this truck and don't know what to do?
I don't want to keep putting money into it and then still sitting there.
I can't seem to get a answer of what is the problem so I'm reaching out to you, someone a Chevrolet Mechanic for help.
I see I have read some postings from people that have had a similar problem with their Chevy S10.
But no one has come up with a real specific answer to the question. :(

What it can be?
What can be causing this issue?
What can be done to fix it?

If someone can help us, talk with me have some advice
We really would appreciate the help!
Please reach out to me if you have some ideas of what the problem is.
Thanks for your time and reading this posting!

Hi,

When the smoke came from under the hood, was there any specific type of odor? For example, did it smell electrical? Did it have a sweet smell like engine coolant or anything you can remember?

The idea that it doesn't have spark is usually related to a failed crankshaft position sensor or ignition control module. However, I don't suspect that created all the smoke you described.

Here is where I need you to start. I need to first know if there are any diagnostic trouble codes stored in the computer. This vehicle has an OBD1 system which doesn't require a scanner to retrieve codes. All you will need is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip will work. Follow the directions in this link and let me know the results:

Let me know as much as you can.

Take care,

Joe

Hi Joe,

Thank you for the reply. We are going to do it today when we get. I will let you know what happens. I do have one of those code readers. Is it better to do it with code reader or better the way you had told us to do it?

If the code reader is for the old-style OBD1 system, that would be great. There aren't too many of those around anymore. However, the link I provided works just as well. Try it both ways.
