Hi, just recently our truck started acting funny. When you crank the engine and then try to put it in 1st gear, it jerks forward real hard and then shuts. What is causing this to happen?

Hi,

Rene, it sounds like a faulty torque converter. The torque converter is between the engine and transmission. In general, it does the same thing a clutch does for a manual transmission, engages and disengages the transmission and engine.

What I believe is happening, in this case, is the converter isn't disengaging the engine and transmission. As a result, it is like popping the clutch on a manual transmission when you place it in drive.

Have you checked the condition of the transmission fluid? Does it do the same thing in reverse?

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

Can you please shoot a quick video with your phone so we can see what's going on? That would be great. You can upload it here with your response.
