Hi,
If you have to press the gas pedal, that is usually an indication of a flooded engine. Depressing the throttle turns off injectors and opens the throttle plate to allow the max amount of air to enter.
Two things. First, I need you to scan the computer to see if there are diagnostic trouble codes stored. This has an OBD1 system and doesn't require a scanner to retrieve codes. All that is needed is a short jumper wire or even a paper clip. Here is a link that explains how to do it:

Next, if there are no codes that are relevant, we need to check the fuel pressure to see if it is too high due to a faulty regulator. Here is a link that explains how it's done:
