Transmission trouble

This car was giving to me and it starts and runs good. It is an automatic and when I put it in gear the idle changes a bit, but gear does not seem to engage. Figured out that someone put a lot of transmission fluid. Please tell me that that is my problem over fill on fluid? Or is my transmission bad?

It may be that it is over filled. But the more likely scenario is that it was overfilled when it did not move for the last owner. Drain it down and refill with the correct amount of fluid and see what it does.
