Question, is the 3t40 transmission used in the 1995 Cavalier the same as previous 3t40's used in the Lumina's for instance, in respect to actually having a filler tube with a dipstick? Or is it also a check plug on the side of the transmission?

You just need to know which vehicle the transmission came out of. This appears to be a complete list and it does reflect what I remember. Which is the Sunfire was the odd ball. It is the same components but did have some of its own characteristics. However, all the other TH125C were the same unit.

Hi,

On the 1995 Cavalier with the 3T40 trans (4T40 was an option) they used a dipstick for fluid checking. There wasn't a plug. I can tell you (and please, this is from memory) the dipstick was very short and low on the transmission housing.

Is that what you needed?

Joe
