I changed my transmission valve body but when transmission fluid gets hot, the gears whine and does not change well. Oil level is fine and I used Xcel SP IV oil. Could it be any of the solenoids? Car works fine until it heats up. What could be the problem?

Hello,

Yes it sounds like you may have a bad valve body and the selector valves get hung up. You will need to take it back apart to see what happened. Can I ask why the replacement in the first place?

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken

There was an oil leakage, clutch got burnt. I changed the drum, and then my mechanic tampered with the solenoids. It was not changing well so I was advised to change the valve body. Prior to this I changed the whole gearbox twice with used ones but they were all whining around the second and fourth gears. So I changed back to my old gearbox. I noticed my old one was working when I engage them manually but the moment I shift to automatic it begins to whine at the third and fourth gears. I was then advised to change the valve body which I did. That one drives perfectly but the moment the fluid gets hot, then it acts up.

It sounds like you have an internal seal that has gone bad. It might be time for a rebuilt or low miles used unit.

Please let us know what happens.
