Hi BJ,

I don't have specific cross-reference guides. However, if you have a specific year that you would like to know about, I will try identifying part numbers to see if it will work.

Since this is a 2wd, it should make it easier, but they constantly change things. For example, if you look at pic 1 below, it shows the OEM part number for the transmission used when it was new. Pic 2 is for the same vehicle but a 1996 and pic 3 shows the same vehicle but for a 1998. Note that all three are different.

So, if you have a specific year and model (for example a Ford Explorer, let me know I'll check it out for you.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Based on the casting number, it is either a 4R44E. If you can get me a model year, I can now cross-reference it.

Let me know.

This is the VIN number for the truck and all the numbers off the transmission that I could find I went back out there and looked I don't know what year model transmission it is. I just need to know what year models will interchange with a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT 4.0 with overdrive sensor.

Hi,

Actually, it is the 5R55E. See pics below.

If I recall, this transmission was only used behind the 4.0L for the following vehicles.

1997 Aerostar
1997-'03 Mazda B4000
1997-'01 Explorer
2002-'03 Sport and Sport Trac
1997-'03 Ranger

Please keep in mind, the aforementioned vehicles had optional engine sizes that would have used a different transmission. However, if you find one of them with the 4.0L, it should be the same transmission.

If you find one, let me know the specifics and I'll try to confirm fitment.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can help.

Hi,

Both the 4R44E and the 5R55E were used in the ranger. The 5R55E was used with the 4.0L engine. According to the label you sent me, the letter D indicates the truck originally came with the 5R55E. I did a little more digging, and it appears that the transmission case was used for both model transmissions.

Based on that, I feel that is the likely model transmission in the vehicle and what it came with. I hope that helps.

Listen, if you come across a specific model and year that you question, let me know and I see if it should fit.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

The 5R55E was used with this engine. See what you can find as far as a donor vehicle and let me know what it is. You will likely need to find a vehicle that also came with the 4.0L engine.

Let me know if I can help.
