2001 Toyota Tacoma engine light blinking tapping noise fron

Hello I have a problem and thank you for your time. The engine light went on it will blink and then stay on. There is a rough start and the engine shakes more then usual when idiling. A tapping noise I believe comes from the front top side of the engine. It happen before but I changed the oil added a Cd detergent and it went away thinking it may be the lifters. The sound returned this Friday have not used car since. Drove car to street only had loss of power putting back on driveway. Any reply would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Check engine light on

Have the computer scanned for code/s-you have a problem within the engine management system that caused the CEL to turn on-This is your starting point of diagnosis, finding out what's going on.
