If, after driving for 5-10 miles, I cut my Tacoma off for about 10 minutes and then restart it, it cranks easily but runs rough. When I then start to drive it, it will stutter and shake. Going up a hill, it will lose power. The check engine light comes on and blinks. If I shift into 2nd, power loss is not as obvious and the truck will gain speed. However, the engine light will blink on.

Fuel filter, spark plugs and spark plug wires were replaced but did not fix problem. Engine analysis didn't pick up any problem, but stethoscope indicated that there may be a mechanical problem with injectors 4 and 5. The mechanic stated that this may fix the problem, but no guarantee. Advice?

Couple thoughts. If the injectors are what they believe, they should swap them to different cylinders to see of the noise moves with them. IF the injectors were starving the fuel a blinking check engine light would not be the result as it would be a lean condition, not rich. The CEL blinks because of too rich of a condtion that is going to cause damage to the converter.

Has the fuel pressure been monitored while the symptoms were present? Regulator allowing too high of a pressure?
