Engine problem
Toyota Pickup 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 305000 miles

In the lase 2 years, I have been through 3 ignition control modules. The stock replacement ones are about $450. OO from the dealer, and about $150.00 for a used one from local truck wreckers. After frying 2 stock ones, I purchased an MSD 6A box, and Blaster SS coil. The MSD ignition control worked great for 2 months, when that unit fried. Each time that they go, there is no warning, the truck goes from running to not running with no sputtering or electrical problems, the spark just flat stops. What could possibly be causing my Ignition control to go out so quickly?

I don't think that any of this is pertinent, however, the engine has only 10,000 miles on it, it's a 22R, carburetted, the only thing other than the MSD 6A box and coil that is performance is a Thorley Header, smog legal (I live in CA ). Please help.

Sorry, forgot to include the year of the truck. It's a 1986 4X4.

In toyota they call the control module the Ignitor it tells the coil to fire the plugs it takes the place of an ignition contact point-it switches the primary circuit in the igniton system.

Now I recommend you check the distributor pick-up coil inside if it doesn't give the computer the Ne and G signals-nothing is gonna happen No spark and injection pulses. The ECM has to get the Igt signal in order for it to tell the ignitor to fire the coil, when the coil fires, the ignitor will give the computer the Igf signal that combustion has occured and the whole process repeats.

The pick up coil is working fine. Like I said, the MSD and the stock ignitor units have all been fried, or made to be inoperable. What cause the ignitors to burn up. Truck doesn't overheat, and the hearer is sheilded.
