1986 Toyota Pickup 4 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual
While out driving, my son blew a 20 apm "Turn Signal" fuse in the cab fuse box, and mistakenly replaced it with a 30 amp fuse. Driving home, he noticed a "hot eletrical smell" in the cab. The turn signals, radio and instrument panel all went dead.
After arriving home he replaced the 30 amp unblown fuse with the proper 20 amp fuse. The instrument panel starts working. No radio or turn signal, but driveable.
Two day later, driving on Frwy. In rain, engine dies. Four jump starts later, truck arrives home (about 6 miles). Charged battery, held charge over night, starts twice following day no problem.
Testing: turn signal lever does not activate lamps (all lamps checked good by hazard switch activation) instrument panel fails again on turn switch activation.
radio still n/g fuses aok. Removed Turn/S assembly, no burn smell or melted wires noted. Removed instrument panel, no burns noticed, lamps all good. Tested two "breakers" on interior fuse box, tested good, flasher unit presumed good as hazard lights flash. Checked engine compartment fuses, all good.
Replaced alternator and battery 6 months ago.
What should I do next?
