Find the no.1 spark plug, remove it. Now put a piece of cloth on the opening, place your thumb on it to seal the opening. Now disconnect the coil wire, the one that goes to the distributor and ground it. Have someone crank it over in short burst when you feel the pressure on your thumb, stop. Look at the vibration damper line the notch and scale to 0deg by turning the center bolt of the crankshaft. Stick a screwdriver in the plug hole, the piston should be all the way up. and the rotor should be pointing to the no.1 plug tower. You have to open the distributor cap to check this.

Good Luck!
