es 300 1993 60,000 abs light comes on, recent brake pads changed front and back, abs light was coming on prior to brake pad replacement. Pep Boys says abs is causing vibrations and brakes to feel as if grinding when applied. Does this sound right or should I go to dealer?

Stay away from chain repair places. Dealer is okay, a good independent is the better choice IMHO. You have a false ABS problem it sounds like and has a fair chance of a wheel speed sensor(S) gone bad.
