1986 4X4 auto trans proplems

I have a problem when taking off. It wants to bypass 2nd gear and go directly into 3rd' also my overdrive doesn't work when this is happening. And it doesn't do it all the time. Some days it shifts out perfect. Can you help? THANX. Toyotaboy77

Check to see how far you have the gas pedel pushed when trying to shift. Some throttles are hooked up to the transmission. You might find that the vehicle will not go into overdrive based on how far the gas peddle is pushed. Like being in passing gear.
