Heater problem
2003 Toyota Corolla Engine Size unknown Wheel Drive Type unknown Automatic 50000 miles

My husband was fooling around with the car and did something to the heater. I took it to the Toyota Dealership and they came back and told me that the Control Head Unit was damaged and that the whole thing needed to be replaced and it would cost a total of $768 to fix. I didnt get it fixed because I thought that maybe they were trying to take me to the cleaners because I was a woman not sure what was wrong with the car. Could he have really done something that bad to where it would ALL need to be replaced and if so does it really cost that much or should I get a 2nd opinion. I would so appreciate any thoughts :-)

Hi there,

If he has damaged the heater control assembly, I would expect a repair bill in the order to what you have said, these control units are non repairable, and new are not cheap. There is a few hrs labour involved in replacing as a proportion of the dash has to be removed, being repaired at a dealership will inflate the price as well, you may be able to see if your local independent work shop will do the job for you,
