Hi; Auto expert:
I have a question about alternator charge system.
I want to built a windmill power system to generate electricity using an automotive alternator and battery, I will take off an alternator and the battery from an old car, but I guess that I have to take off another part (charging circuit board or charge control unit??) from the car in order to make the battery charged properly. I do not know much about the car parts and where the charge control board is located. Can you suggest a where such charging part located and possible instruction to connect the alternator, charging system and battery together to make this windmill power system work?
I really appreciate your great help.

Hi hpan,

If the alternator comes with built-in regulators and rectifiers, you do not need any other parts, just the alternator, a battery and the appropriate wiring will do.

Just curious and want to know are you going to connect the windmill to make the alternator run at speeds more than 1500 rpm to generate the current.

Hi; KHLow2008,
Thank you for your help. I saw a website which says that one can build windmill electricity system using an automotive alternator. From what you said I realize that it is useless because the windmill will not make 1500 rpm.
You saved my time and effort.
Thank again.
