Electrical problem
1986 Toyota Corolla 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

I got an 1986 corolla and it doesn't seem to be charging well. I took the alternator out for a check up at a local mechanic and he said that it is working properly. So I went back home, and installed the alternator and then started the car and took it for a spin at night (with the headlamps on ofcourse) and when I got home, I turned the engine off and then tried to start it but it just didn't. The battery was "empty". What could be the problem? Regulator? Ground cables? Or is it the alternator itself?

Thanks.

Have the charging system tested on car. Most auto parts store will do this free.

The battery could also be bad, or the alternator when installed.

Usually, when the alt. Is bad you will get a "Battery" symbol warning light on the instrument panel.
