The 4AGE is a 16 valve configuration with DOHC. The 4AFE is also 16 valve DOHC but is a bit less powerful then it's "brother" 4AGE

the VW will also have a timing belt.

What is the timing marks for the twin cam 5af engine. Can you show me the top dead center mark, it is quite confusing. What is the recomended timing for a stock engine.

5AF is a Japanese designation for the U.S. 4AFE, the 4AGE was also available for 1991.

5af drives 2 cams just like the 4af. However, im quite confused on how to set those cams since the timing marks are quite vague similar to 4af. Can you show it to me with illustrations. Thanks

Best thing to do is use the car repair manual link in this thread or get a Haynes manual.

The two marks on the inside of the cams are installation marks, the marks on the outside (facing passengers side) are timing marks.
You would use a wrench to rotate the cams to align the timing marks, make sure crank mark is aligned, then install belt.

I need to know how to set the timing marks so I can put the belt back on it. When I got the the belt was off of it. It has the 1.6 in it

Check yoru compression first yo may have bent valves. Make sure to replace the tensioner as well. Pic enclosed.
