Engine problem
1994 Toyota Corolla Engine Size unknown Two Wheel Drive 320000 miles

I am replacing harmonic balancer as old one broke and the key that blocks the balancer from moving on crankshaft was lost. I have welded new balancer in random position on crankshaft as I could not see where the old key would go. I have driven the car with broken balancer for a while and it must have grinded this blocking key. Now crankshaft is all round. My question is simple - can I drive it this way or should I scrap the car? Do I need to worry about some timing or other issues?

Hi there,

It is a bit difficult to form an option with out seeing something like this first hand, If you have welded the balancer on the crank and you have no timing reference, you will not be able to replace the timing belt, water pump or crank end seal easily. I feel it is time to say good by to it.
