1999 Toyota Camry V6 132000 miles A/T

I recently got into a slight front fender bender. (Did not hit the engine)

Here's what happened:

***When the car is on or even when driving, the starter continued to crank without stopping.

After a few days, when I tried to start the car, the starter would not crank on but the enigne lights all came on. I figured to bang on the starter a few times like some people suggested (if the starter was frozen). All of a sudden, the starter began continuously crank by itself again even with the car turned off and no key in the ignition.

. After a few mins, there was smoke coming from the starter (Keep in mind, car is off but the starter is cranking continuously by itself). As time went on, more smoke came from the starter. I was finally able to remove the negative terminal in connection to the battery. The starter then completely went dead. There were flames on the tip of the battery wire terminal where it connected to the battery which I had to blow out. I guess If I had waited a few more minutes, my car would have exploded.

So here's what I have so far. I bought a new starter. Before I install it, I will probably buy new positive and negative battery wires as well as new battery terminals.

Before I put the new starter in and cause the same issue, is there any other suggestions of what I should check? Possibly a short somewhere that made the starter continuously turn? If it turns out the be the starter relay, where is it found? Does it have anythign to do with the fuses? Or was it just the starter it self? Help! Please!

Be sure that there is no power to the small starter wire when the key is in the on position, only in the crank position

Either you have a bad ignition switch or a sticking starter relay.
