About a week ago I was driving on the interstate going 75-80 mph. Suddenly my car lost accelleration and started sputtering down the highway. I got out to check the tires, fine. The car still drove, but I had to drive on the shoulder due to the car's inability to accell over 50 mph. Now when I put the pedal to the metal it just whirrs and doesn't go any faster. It goes, but at a rate of 0-50 in 15 min. There is now a clanging somewhere when I have it in gear and let off the accellerator. My bro, the mechanic, told me that I put too much oil in and to drain it and change the spark plugs. I did so, the spark plugs had nothing on them except carbon deposits. I also drained the oil to the full line. No change. The first day driving the car I could not accellerate without putting on my hazards. And I could not be in 2nd/3rd/4th without the car jumping back and forth back and forth. Now the jumping has stopped. It comes back ocassionally though. I can accellerate without the need for hazards. But still cannot accellerate like I used to be able to. Help! My bro, the mechanic, said it sounds like the timing. What do you think?
