Engine Mechanical problem
1996 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 141000 miles

I have a 1996 Camry. My engine was replaced with a 1993 4cylinder engine. The car now is in the repair shop. The mechanic said the car won't run because the crankshaft sensor is bad. I called the dealer and they said the 1993 motor does not have a crankshaft sensor. The mechanic showed me some wiring which he says is bad that is connected to the crankshaft sensor. Do I need a crankshaft sensor for this car? Will the car start without a crankshaft sensor? And do I need one for this engine?

Hi
The 93 2.2L does not have the 96 2.2L has a crankshaft sensor located behind timing cover near cam gear. If your using 96 ECM on 93 that is problem
Hope this helps
