1994 Toyota Camry Timimg Belt

Camry made a huge explosion type sound on the highway and then the engine shut off. I was driving at 70 mph in second gear by accident. It felt like something slammed into something else. Two mechanics said that it sounded liike I snapped the timing belt bec of how I was driving in 2 gear. I bought the car used and the prev owner said that he had changed the timing belt at 90000 miles. What do I do? Engine does not start.

Hi there, take off the top front timing belt cover and see if the belt has failed, do this and re post for advice on what to do next.

Yes Mark I took off the cover and the belt looks fine. But would I be able to SEE if the belt snapped or maybe it just lost some teeth or maybe it is broken but I can;t see it.

Check the timing marks, with the crank shaft on TDC No1 there is a small hole in the cam gear at around 11-00 o'clock position it should line up with a scribed line on the backing plate, if this is ok let me know and well look into it a bit further, also try and get a comp test done as well and post the results.
