Hello,

i have a 1995 toyota camry with a 2.2L that recently threw a timing belt (belt snapped while I was going down the road). I am at a total loss on what to look for next. I replaced the timing belt and water pump and car didnt start. Looked at the timing again and the belt had jumped a few teeth. Yesterday I reset the timing tightened down the tensioner and all that, and when I tried to start it, cylinder 1 fired but that is all that happened. Any suggestions as to where to look?

That shouldnt be an issue as its not an interference engine. Had a mechanic look at it before I decided to tackle it, couldnt afford his price, and he said they were fine.

When timing belt breaks, it might not interfere. If the timing belt had skipped a few tooth, that can become inteference.

The valves can only interfere with the stroke of the pistons if its an interference engine. An interference engine is called such because the valves come down past the point of tdc for the pistons. Whether it breaks or skips. This engine doesnt have that problem cause its not an interference engine.

On another note.I got my car running again. It was the distributor.
