Engine Performance problem
1991 Toyota Camry 4 cyl Automatic 97,000 miles

My 91 camry, which I bought used from a dealership with only 92,000 miles on it about six months ago, has been having engine problems for more than half of my ownership. First, while still under the three month warranty, the transmission died and had to be completely replaced. Now, it is having several problems. It has always idled funny, with lots of vibrating until I start moving again. It won't start sometimes, but seems to be a fuel line problem because I can hear the starter clicking over and over. It also seems to have less power when going up hills. In accelerating to full speed from a stoplight, the engine will occasionally (more now than before) feel sluggish or even cut out altogether. Also, it has recently started stalling when at a stop or in a parking lot at minimal speeds. I am extremely frustrated as I spent a lot of money on a car that I thought had been fixed up and made close to new from a seemingly reputable dealership. What should I do?

Do you have a check engine light?

Lets start by checking the following: Air flow meter, idle air control valve, throttle position sensor, EGR and PCV valves, and test the fuel pressure and the exhaust system for restriction.

No check engine light. I took it to a mechanic, and he did say the TPS needed work, but that it wasn't a problem that needed to be taken care of in the near future.
