After driving on the motorway for 8 miles the car will no longer accelerate properly. Along the flat and dowhill it will accelrate slowly but on any incline speed is lost. The only way to accelerate is to shift down to a lower gear until the revs are above 3,300 at which point normal acceleration resumes. After a further 15 miles the fault clears and the car drives normally for the rest of the day even if parked for a few hours. My main toyota agent has tested the car and can provide no resolution to this problem since there are no fault codes present even

when the fault is present and it is being driven. Their realtime diagnostics showed nothing abnormal even though the car would not accelerate.

Check and test all the following below:

Oxygen sensor
Dirty fuel injectors (cleaning the injectors often fixes this).
Bad MAP (manifold absolute pressure) sensor
Bad TPS (throttle position) sensor
Bad or dirty MAF (mass airflow) sensor
Low fuel pressure (leaky fuel pressure regulator or weak fuel pump)
Vacuum leaks (intake manifold, vacuum hoses, throttle body, EGR valve)
Bad gasoline (fuel contaminated with water or too much alcohol)

Sometimes, what feels like a hesitation is actually ignition misfire rather than lean misfire. The causes of ignition misfire may include:

Dirty or worn spark plugs
Bad plug wires
Weak ignition coil
