I just had my tires rotated and my tire sensor readings are all blank. Did the dealership forget to reset something? Can I do this myself? If so, what tool can I buy that will absolutely work? I bought a cheaper tool for this awhile back and it didn't work.

It sounds like the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) needs to be reset after the tire rotation.

Sometimes, driving the vehicle for about 10-15 minutes at a speed of over 20 MPH can help the system to automatically relearn the sensor positions.

Manual Relearn Procedure:

Turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine. Press and hold the TPMS reset button, until the TPMS light blinks twice. Release the button and drive for about 10 minutes, this should recalibrate.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Ken,

Where do I find the TPMS reset button?
Keep in mind I have a 2018 Chevy Equinox; I gave all the car info when I signed up to ask the question. Please advise. Thanks for your help. If you could give me the step by step instructions on how to find this reset button, it would be greatly appreciated. Does the 2018 even have this?

I need the TPMS tool, right? Can you recommend the best one that isn't too expensive?

You can reset the tire monitor by using the driver's information center.

"Ignition On/Vehicle in Service Mode, using a scan tool or driver information center buttons (refer to owner's manual), initiate the Tire Pressure Sensors Learn mode."'

Please check out the information in the above post.

Hi, I forgot to mention something. When I went into the dealership I had the back right tire sensor out.I saw that because I was keeping close tabs on the tpms readings through the menu options. If they rotated the tires according to what the manufacturer book says they would have criss crossed. So the back right would now be in the left front position, right? Since the tpms system goes by position and you have to start with the front left driver's side, it's not going to work, right? If I try to reset using the tool and that first tires sensor is out, what will happen? Will I have to wait until the next tire rotation?
I'm worried they might try to eventually tell me all 4 sensors are out, when I know I went in there with 3 working. I appreciate all your help. If you could answer all 4 of my questions, I would greatly appreciate if. Things are tough right now and I don't want to have to buy the tool if it wouldn't even work anyway.

Yes, if you rotate the tires you will need to do a relearn.

Each sensor has its own unique identification (ID) code which it transmits as part of each RF message and must be learned into the BCM memory. To reactivate the sensors, the vehicle must be driven above 40 km/h (25 MPH) for at least 9 min.

Let me know if this works.

I'm sorry I was confused by your answer?
So, I don't need to worry if the one with the bad sensor was moved to the front left side? All I need to do is drive the car over 40 mph?
Do I need to do anything in the TPMS menu 1st? I don't need the tool?

Here is the manual TPMS relearn:

Manual Relearn Procedure:

Turn the ignition to the "On" position without starting the engine. Press and hold the TPMS reset button, until the TPMS light blinks twice. Release the button and drive for about 10 minutes, this should recalibrate.

If this doesn't work you will need the scanner or you can try a hard system reboot.

I have seen this work.

I know this may be obvious. But I just want to make sure I understand. After I see it blink twice, it's safe then to start the engine and drive 10 minutes?
