Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros. Com.

I am not sure why you would have three different marks. Here are directions specific to install for this vehicle. However, I do know there are marks on the belt which should align with both the crank and cam timing marks. I looked at all my information and here is what I found. I hope this helps. Additionally, I attached pictures for the timing process.

1988 Nissan-Datsun Stanza Sedan L4-1974cc 2.0L SOHC (CA20E)
Vehicle  Engine, Cooling and Exhaust  Engine  Timing Belt  Service and Repair  Installation
INSTALLATION
Confirm that No. 1 cylinder is set at T.D.C. On its compression stroke.
Install tensioner and return spring.
Temporarily tighten bolts so that tensioner can swing smoothly.
Cam And Crank Timing Marks
Set timing belt.
Ensure that timing belt and pulleys are clean and free from oil or water. Do not bend timing belt tightly.
Align white lines on timing belt with punch marks on camshaft sprocket and crankshaft sprocket.
Have arrow on timing belt pointing toward front belt covers.
Tighten belt tensioner and assemble spring.
To set spring, first hook one end on bolt (B) side, then hook the other end on tensioner bracket pawl. After rotating crankshaft two turns clockwise, tighten bolt (B) and then bolt (A), and belt tension will automatically be the specified value.
Specified Value: 15 - 20 Nm (1.5 - 2.0 kg-m, 11 - 14 ft-lb)
Install timing belt covers.

Let me know if this helps at all.

Not a problem. I keep my eyes open for your reply. Hopefully, when I see, I will have a better understanding. Please keep in mind, the timing belt should have marks on it which indicate where it should align with the marks on the cam and crank. If you get the two in position, it should be right. The belt alignment marks are spaced specifically a certain number of teeth apart.

Regardless, take care and let me know.

You are very welcome. However, I think you had everything figured out before you contacted us. Lol Take care and if you need anything in the future, let us know.

Just FYI, once you have the belt installed and timing is set, turn the engine over with a wrench to make sure there is nothing interfering internally that could indicate a timing issue.
