I am putting a water pump on this car I have not started yet. What I have been reading about this tensioner you have to compress the thing then after getting it in take a bar and pry some where and it suppose to pop back out, and some thing about getting all the oil out of it. So can any one give me the run down on this tensioner? I understand if you do not do this right you could be in trouble. So can some one give me some information that has worked on this engine?

There are two tensioners. One of them must be removed, squeezed in a vise to compress it, then you stick in a pin to hold it compressed while you reinstall it. A small cotter pin might work to hold it. Once the belt is in place, pull the pin to release it and tighten the belt.

This engine is not listed as an interference engine, but regardless, always rotate the engine in the normal direction two full crankshaft revolutions by hand, then double-check the timing. If you feel any binding, or the crank stops suddenly, stop, back up a little, then fix the timing chain.
