I have the truck listed above it is a K1500 z71 with the Vortec engine. It needs to be timed. I have been told by some mechanics that it has to be timed using a special computer and other mechanic have told me it can be timed by hand without a computer. So basically I just need to know if I have to have a computer to time it or not? Because I really do not want to have to pay someone to do it if I can do it myself.

No, you do not have to adjust the timing because it cannot be done. The ignition timing is engineered from the factory and not adjustable. If you have already moved the distributor, what you have done is throw the primary ignition (camshaft) and secondary ignition out of sync. That would cause a check engine light and a P1345 code to be set. If that has happened, you will need a professional level scan tool to adjust the cam offset to zero.
