Terrible exhaust sound!

This afternoon, as I was pulling out onto the road and accelerating at about 75%, it sounded like my exhaust was removed instantly. It's coming from under the hood. Several years ago I removed the exhaust for a day and it sounds just like that except that its farther forward. It's the 2.2l four cylinder. Any ideas?

Have a shop listen to it for you as we cannot hear it or see it.

Someone said it could be a flex pipe. Does that sound right?

Not on an s10. They are on front wheel drive vehicles
