Transmission problem
1992 Suzuki Sidekick 4 cyl Automatic 84000 miles

At about 60,000 miles I becan having trouble with the lock-up converter or overdrive. I got where it would only lock-up when it was cold, now it never locks up. I would like to get this fixed for better fuel economy, I would also like to install a lock-out switch for when I pull a small trailer to the solid wast disposal.

Second question: Same vehicle. While looking for a loose wire that might cause the problem above, I found a wire hanging from the power steering pump, it appears to come from a sender of some type. I'm unable to find a place to connect this 10 inch wire. Would this have something to do with the transmission problem above?

I have owned this sense it was new, it has never been in a collision and everything is still 100% Suzuki except for air conditioning that was dealer installed.

Thank you,
Dale

Most likely the lockup solenoid is bad, or possible wiring issue (connector to lockup solenoid).

Other possibiities are: the engine must be at operating temp, brake switch working and vehicle speed sensor.

In general the solenoid (failure) is more common.

You can wire a lockout, by tapping into ground side of solenoid switch (or power) and wiring to a switch on dash.

ECM commands lockup, although it may command lockup, does not mean it does, because solenoid is bad or wiring to it, or other items mentioned above.
