We have an extended warranty on this car and the timing chain tensioner went and wrecked the motor. It is not a mft warranty and the policy shows the timing chain and timing gears are covered. Is a timing tensioner considered a timing gear? This might sound like a crazy questions I am just not too sure. Can you show me how to replace the tension and chain thank you for your input.

Hello,

This Outback is equipped with a timing belt and not a chain.
Typically when a timing belt is changed the tensioner gets changed as well as part of the service. So if the warranty states it will cover timing component then you should be good.
So you cannot just change the tensioner.
