I have a 1994 subaru legacy (had a crate engine put in two years ago). It is burning lots of oil, about two quarts + a week, leaking underneath, and blowing all underneath the undercarriage. Mechanic can't tell where the leak is from all the oil. He says fire is likely. He says he needs to keep it for a day, clean it off underneath, and thinks it may be gasket or plug (?). This is at minimum 250. Dollars. Does this sound like his diagnosis and then, about the quote? I am scared I should just trade this car in rather than pay this and not see it fixed. But, if it can and then be safer, I will keep it, even at a minimum $250. Dollar bite outa my wallet. Single mom in NC. HELP!

Hi there,

I would ring around and find a shop that will do this small job(wash and inspect for leak) at a realistic price, it should take them less than 1 hr to wash and see here the leaks. But then fixing it may be more expensive, but at this stage just a wash and reports all you need to make up you mind which way to go, (fix or sell)
