2004 Subaru Impreza Blew out Spark Plug

04 Impreza, 2.5L. Blew out spark plug on number three cylinder. Local repair shop first just screwed in new spark plug. Blew out again. Local shop installed thread repair kit and new spark plug. Engine is now intermittently at times and then consistently running rough. Local Subaru dealer says the engine must come out to repair.
What do you advise and what is your experince with this particular problem?

Hi,

I was just wondering if you ever figured out this problem, as I am having very similar issues. I've had spark plugs and an ignition coil replaced, and I'm weary to spend any more money unless I"m sure it's going to fix the problem.

I'd appreciate any advice you might have. Thanks!
